PT Freeport Indonesia Teams Up With the TNI to Secure the Mining Area

In accordance with TNI Law No. 34/2004, the TNI is a defense tool for the Republic of Indonesia that carries out basic tasks through Military Operations for War (OMP) and Military Operations Other than War (OMSP). The implementation of the OMSP is one of them, namely by securing strategic national vital objects.

Recently PT Freeport Indonesia teamed up with the Indonesian National Army (TNI) to secure the mining area. Both of them have just signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in terms of securing the area and the activities of the mining company. The memorandum of understanding was signed by TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto with PT Freeport Indonesia President Director Clayton Allen Wenas at the TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta.

The TNI Commander said that PT Freeport Indonesia was categorized as a strategic national vital object. According to him, the location of PT Freeport Indonesia's mining business in Timika is a very remote, difficult and unique area.

"In addition there is the threat of Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) and security disturbances that escalate and are volatile in nature, therefore, integrated security coordination and synergy between the TNI and PT Freeport Indonesia are needed." said Hadi on Friday (12/27).

To secure PT Freeport Indonesia, the TNI can carry out its own operations or cooperate with the National Police. "As understood together, the TNI is a unit that is trained to carry out tasks in fields with characteristics such as the PT Freeport mining location," said the TNI Commander.
