Ewer Airport is ready to land ATR type aircraft

Asmat Regent, Elisa Kambu, said that Ewer Airport is now ready to land ATR type aircraft because its length has met the requirements. At present the airport is only landed with small aircraft type caravan or twin otter but with the runway extended to 1,650 meters.

"The Asmat Regional Government supports the improvement of aircraft types by carrying out a number of developments in addition to the runway as well as preparing supporting requirements," said Asmat Regent Elisa Kambu, in Jayapura, Wednesday (2/26/2020).

He said the supporting facilities prepared were a fire truck that would be imported from Merauke so that flight activities at Ewer Airport could be increased.

At present the airport is only landed by small caravan or twin otter aircraft but with the runway extended to 1,650 meters the ATR aircraft can land.

"The construction of the airport still uses steel mat construction due to the condition of the area," Kambu explained, hoping that the Ministry of Transportation, through the Director General of Civil Aviation, could immediately schedule a landing test using an ATR aircraft.

"Hopefully this year the airport can be landed with ATR type so that more people can be transported, remembering to get out of its territory can only be done in two ways namely air and sea," he added.
