The Regency Government of Puncak supports the extension of the runway at Aminggaru Ilaga Airport

The Government of Puncak Regency, Papua Province fully supports the development and extension of the Aminggaru Ilaga Airport runway so that it can be landed by ATR wide body aircraft.
.
Puncak Regent Willem Wandik in Timika said Monday that the work to expand and extend the runway at the Aminggaru Ilaga Airport continues to be accelerated and as long as the progress is going well.
.
The work to expand and extend the runway of the Aminggaru Ilaga Airport was handled by the Ministry of Transportation, while the Puncak Regency Government took care of the land acquisition and the creation of access roads to the Ilaga Airport terminal.
.
"The progress is extraordinary, it continues until now. Hopefully by 2022 it can be fully operational. It is hoped that later ATR-type aircraft can enter Ilaga and Sinak," Willem said.
.
Willem appreciates the full support of the Central Government for the development of various infrastructures in Puncak District, considering that building in an area located in the central mountain region of Papua with difficult geographical and topographic conditions requires very expensive costs.
.
"We are very grateful for the attention of President Joko Widodo who continues to pay attention to the development of a better Puncak Regency. Without full support from the Central Government, it is difficult for us to build there because the costs are very expensive, all basic necessities and building materials are transported to Ilaga by airplane, "explained Willem.
.
Until now the Aminggaru Ilaga Airport runway is only 600 meters long and 23 meters wide, it can only be landed with a caravan and twin otter aircraft with very limited passenger and cargo capacity.
.
The Head of Airport Operational Unit / Ilaga UPBU, Herman Sujito, said some time ago that his staff were still focusing on preparing land for the extension of the runway at Ilaga Airport, because at the end of the airport there was a ravine that had to be piled up.
.
"According to the Ilaga Airport master plan, later it can be landed with ATR type aircraft. If now it can only land with Pilatus Porter, Grand Caravan and Twin Otter aircraft," he said. According to him, there was no change in runway direction related to the work on the landfill at the end of Ilaga Airport.
.
Currently flights to Ilaga, a city located in the mountains of Papua, are mostly carried out from Timika for the benefit of passenger and cargo cargo services. There are also flights from Sinak and Nabire and pioneer subsidy flights from Wamena three times a week.
