Korem 172 / PWY was granted 10 hectares of land by the indigenous people of Keerom Regency. The land located in Arso 6 District is planned to be built the new Korem 172 / PWY headquarters. This step needs to be done considering that Makorem's area is still too small.

The surrender was done symbolically to the Korem 172 / PWY Commander Colonel Inf J. Binsar Parluhutan Sianipar at the Yammua village of Arso 6 Keerom District on Thursday (1/16/2020).

Col. Inf J Binsar Parluhutan Sianipar on the occasion said that the activity had been coordinated with local and adat government since 2018 and had only been realized this year.

"We will move the Makorem, because the Korem office is currently very small with the development of the surrounding development so rapid that to develop the office is no longer possible," he said.

Keerom was chosen because it was considered the most appropriate area to be assigned as an assignment area. "Because Korem 172 is responsible for securing the RI-PNG border region," he explained.

The construction of the new Makorem along with its own housing is planned to be built in 2024 - 2025. The development is expected to be able to provide blessings and benefits to the community and also to indigenous peoples.

"Therefore we will also do our best to build this Korem, then we will also contribute in improving human resources and improving the standard of living of people in Arso and other areas in Keerom Regency," he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Keerom Indigenous Council, Serfosius Tuamis representing the Keerom indigenous people said that the granting of the land sincerely with the aim of its development could bring benefits to all communities in Keerom Regency.

"Already from decades ago we have coordinated with the TNI regarding the provision of land for the construction of TNI units in the Keerom region, but only at this time it can be achieved," he said.

It was conveyed, the traditional council had previously prepared land in another location between Arso 8 and Arso 6. "But the community was more pleased if the construction site was in this place, in Arso 6, Yammua village, so we followed the wishes of the community," he continued.
