PLN Papua Officially Operates Three Gas Engine Power Plants

PLN Papua Main Development Unit (UIP) officially operates three gas engine power plants (PLTMG) in various locations in order to increase the reliability of the electricity system and early year gifts for people in Bumi Cenderawasih.

Papua UIP Papua General Manager Reisal Rimtahi Hasoloan in Jayapura on Thursday said that the three PLTMGs had already obtained an Operation Worthy Certificate (SLO). According to Reisal, the SLO which is the official marker of the operation of the three PLTMGs was obtained by PLN UIP Papua at the end of December 2019.

"The projects include the Jayapura Peaker 40 Mega Watt (MW) PLTMG which has already received SLOs for its five machines, furthermore, the 15 MW Biak PLTMG which has obtained SLOs for one of its two engines with a capacity of 8.5 MW and the 20 MW Merauke PLTMG has also received SLO for both engines, "he said.

"We hope that the operation of this PLTMG can increase the electrification ratio in Papua and encourage economic growth in Jayapura, Merauke and Biak, especially as Papua as the host of PON XX 2020 certainly requires a large and reliable electricity supply," he said.

He explained the construction of the three PLTMGs took more than two years. "This project is part of the 35,000 MW program launched by the government several years ago and up to now has gone according to plan," he said again.

PLTMG is a type of power plant that uses dual fuel, namely LNG (liquid natural gas) and BBM (fuel oil) where the power plant is an effort to support equal access to electricity, especially in Eastern Indonesia.

He added that the national electrification ratio had also increased even far beyond the target. Of the national target of 97.5 percent, PLN has managed to reach a ratio of 98.83 percent until June 2019.
