Mimika Regency Government Starts Serious Management of Mangrove Forest Tourism

The Mimika Regency Government (Pemkab), Papua Province, has begun to take seriously the management of mangrove forest tourism which has recently begun to be visited by local tourists. The seriousness was seen in a meeting that took place in the Mimika Regional Development Planning Board (Bapeda) meeting room on Wednesday (1/22).

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Regent Johannes Rettob involving relevant agencies. One of them is the East Mimika District. The meeting discussed about the long-term mangrove forest tourism master plan.

Actually, the tourism master plan was there from the beginning. However, because the tour was prepared for Pesparawi and PON, the construction was not yet in accordance with the master plan. Because, if adjusted to the rules of the master plan, the physical detail of the design will take approximately 3 to 4 years.

"So that the master plan is made only to adapt to existing concepts. There are only a few points that need to be adjusted, but for the long term, of course, it will be discussed," said John.

In addition, the meeting also discussed the facilities and infrastructure that will be prepared at the tour. As will be a place to sell fish for the local community.

Involving the Amungme and Kamoro tribes to highlight their culture was also discussed, so that mangrove forest tourism was more to the characteristics of Mimika. Cleanliness related to the surrounding environment was also highlighted at the meeting. In the future, a bird watching tower will also be built.
