Keerom chili farmers in Papua make a fortune

Keerom chili farmers in Papua make a fortune

After previous years the chili farmers in Kerom suffered losses, now good fortune came to them. Chili farmers in Arsopura, Skanto District, Keerom Regency, Papua, reap profit from the price of chili on the market from Rp 10,000 per kilo up to Rp 15 thousand per kilo.
.
The chilli planting movement has spread throughout Indonesia, not least in the Papua Province. The chilli commodity prices often fluctuate depending on market conditions and weather. For this reason, the Government of Indonesia continues to pay attention to the farming community, especially in Papua.
.
In 2017 the Agricultural Research Institute for Agriculture Technology (BPTP) of the Balitbangtan Papua signed a memorandum of understanding with the Papua Province PKK Movers Team. In addition to the handing over of chili seeds, BPTP Balitbangtan Papua also conducts chili cultivation technology assistance.
.
Then the government through the Bank Indonesia Representative Office of Papua Province tried to encourage increased local chili production by forming chili clusters involving farmer groups in Keerom Regency.
.
Not only that, BI also provides assistance in the form of agricultural tools to the farmer group in the hope that the assistance can be utilized by chilli farmers well.
.
The assistance will not only be limited to agricultural equipment, but also other technical assistance will be provided such as how to grow chili for better results. This is evidence of the attention of the Government of Indonesia to the fate of farmers in Papua.
