Infected by OPM Sedition, Papuan Exodus Students Threaten PON XX Papua

Student exodus victims of incitement from the Free Papua Movement (OPM) threatened to try to thwart the XX National Sports Week in Papua.

The exodus students who left their education at various universities outside Papua after the Papuan racism case said, if the Papua Provincial Government was not serious in handling their problems, the exodus students threatened to try to thwart the implementation of the Papuan XX PON.

The threat was conveyed by representatives of exodus students who signed the Office of the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) on Thursday (9/1/2020). Oskar Gie, a Satya Wacana Salatiga Christian University student who participated in the group asked the Governor of Papua, the Papua House of Representatives (DPR) and the MRP not to ignore the existence of hundreds of exodus students who had already returned to Papua.

Oskar Gie assessed that the Governor of Papua, the Papua Parliament, and the MRP seemed to ignore the handling of racism experienced by Papuan students in Surabaya on 16 and 17 August 2019, and were more busy taking care of preparations for the holding of PON XX Papua 2020.

"When handling racial confusion, we can mobilize the masses to cancel an agenda like PON," said Gie.

He stated that the persecution and racism experienced by Papuan students in Surabaya last August was no ordinary matter. After the case, Papuan students left various study cities outside Papua, such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Yogyakarta, Manado and Makassar.

The students did an exodus because they felt uncomfortable staying in and continued their studies. Gie said that Papuan student and student dormitories from various study cities outside Papua were visited by security forces. A number of students who staged Papuan anti-racism demonstrations were also intimidated, even detained and criminalized.

According to him, the series of events that should have made the Papua Provincial Government seriously address the issue of racism against Papuans. The Papua Provincial Government together with the Papuan Parliament and MRP must also seriously handle hundreds of exodus students returning to Papua.

It is indeed ironic indeed, this is proof that Papuan students are vulnerable to incitement. Returning home because of sedition, now where do you want to go to college? then they ask the local government to take care of it, if not, they will mess up Papua PON XX. What kind of student is this?
