Heroic Action of the TNI and Papuans in Asmat Replace the Morning Star Flag with the Red and White Flag

Together with local residents, the TNI succeeded in removing the flag that is commonly used by the Free Papua Movement (OPM) and replacing it with the Red and White flag. The Morning Star flag had flown as high as 30 meters since 17 August 2019.

The lowering of the Morning Star flag received a very positive response from the community, and the people in Asmat stated that the Asmat was part of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.

Dansatgas Pamrahwan Battalion 754 / ENK Kostrad Lieutenant Colonel Dodi Nur Hidayat said the raising of the Red and White flag in Asmat was led directly by Letda Inf Laksono as Danpos Pamrahwan Battalion Task Force 754 / ENK.

"This heroic action is one form and form of assertiveness of the Asmat community members who represent all Papuans that they really love Indonesia," said Dodi.

Dodi stressed that no flag could fly in the Papua region other than the Red and White flag. Because, Papua is part of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

Alowisius, who was none other than the Asmat residents who participated in flying the Red and White flag on the tower, also confirmed that he was part of the Republic of Indonesia. "My flag is only the Red and White flag, nothing else. We are Papuans, we love Indonesia and we love the Red and White flag," Alowisius said.
