Coordination will be further strengthened about Papua

The Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security, Mahfud MD, emphasized that coordination between institutions and ministries would be further enhanced to resolve problems in Papua.

"We have a general meeting on Papua. There is no new policy in handling Papua because it is a routine problem," Mahfud said at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Politics and Security, Jakarta, Friday afternoon.

On Friday afternoon, Mahfud chaired a ministerial plenary meeting (RPTM) to discuss the development of the situation and the handling of problems in Papua.

The results of the meeting, he said, agreed that the approach remained in the welfare aspect, only later the coordination would be further strengthened.

"The welfare approach, for example, each department has a program, Trade, the Minister of Industry, PUPR, all of them. Later they will coordinate so that they are not fragmented," he said.

The law enforcement, said Mahfud, was the aspiration of the people, including when he visited Papua some time ago.

"When I went to Papua, the whole community said that it would be upheld for officials to abuse the state's finances," he said.

Mahfud ensured that law enforcement against officials who misuse state finance would not affect the situation in Papua.

The meeting led by Mahfud was attended by a number of ministers, including Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G Plate.
