Biak Power Plant Almost Complete Now Papua Is More Bright

PLN's Papua Development Main Unit (UIP) began synchronizing the Biak Gas Power Plant (PLTMG) after successfully testing two of its engines a few days ago. Testing of machines marked by the appearance of smoke or first smoke in the PLTMG chimney is a marker of the construction process entering the final stages of construction. The progress of the construction of the power plant with 15 Mega Watt (MW) is currently at 93%.
.
"Synchronization is a stage to test the ability and readiness of power plants to deliver PLTMG electricity to the electricity network in an area. The synchronization phase of the Biak PLTMG is almost simultaneously with the Biak 2 (10 MW) PLTMG that has been carried out since last month. So in the near future Biak Regency will soon be strengthened by two new types of power plants, after previously relying on PLTD alone, "said Hendra Fitria, Manager of the Papua Project Implementation Unit.
.
A series of synchronization stages at the PLTMG located in Urfu Village, Yendidori District, are expected to be completed before the turn of 2019 and be able to answer the increasing electricity needs in Biak Numfor District.
.
"The total power generated by these two PLTMGs will be around 25 MW, when compared with the current peak electricity consumption which is in the range of 14 MW, the power generated by this PLTMG is classified as a surplus. So that later PLTD is expected to not need to operate again. This surplus power is also to attract investors and support the large-scale development launched by the government such as the establishment of the aerospace port or the Air Force's command headquarters, "said Hendra.
.
Biak PLTMG is part of the 35,000 MW Program that was launched several years ago and has been running according to plan. Meanwhile PLN's national electrification ratio has also increased even far beyond the target. Of the national target of 97.5% PLN has succeeded in achieving an increase in the ratio of 98.83% until June 2019.
.
During the first six months of 2019, PLN succeeded in increasing its generating capacity by 872.44 MW, bringing the total installed capacity of power plants in Indonesia to 58,519 MW. PLN also succeeded in increasing the transmission network of 2,847 kilometer circuits (kms) to 56,453 kms, and adding the Substation by 6,557 MVA to 137,721 MVA. (*)
