ULMWP Petition Has Been Rejected by the UN, Yes It Must Be Rejected Again

ULMWP Petition Has Been Rejected by the UN, Yes It Must Be Rejected Again

The United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) has directly sent a secret petition that claims to contain 1.8 million Papuan signatures to the UN. That was said directly by the chairman of ULMWP, Benny Wenda, told Reuters.
.
Benny said that the petition was submitted last Friday. The petition contained a demand for a referendum on Papuan independence because Indonesia had committed gross human rights violations in Papua, so it was necessary for the UN to send a fact-finding team to come to Indonesia especially in Papua.
.
Responding to that, the Government of Indonesia responded coldly. It was said by Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) Moeldoko that the Indonesian government did not question the submission of a petition that claimed to contain 1.8 million signatures as a demand for a Papuan independence referendum to UN Human Rights Head Michelle Bachelet.
.
Moeldoko said, the petition from the ULMWP was a political manipulation that did not have credibility.
.
"Since 2017, ULMWP has previously sent a petition to the United Nations, but the petition was rejected by the Head of the United Nations (UN) Decolonization Committee Rafael Ramirez because the petition was invalid and had too much political manipulation," Moeldoko said.
.
In addition, Moeldoko stressed that the United Nations (UN) would definitely respect the sovereignty of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). 1.8 million signed petitions calling for a referendum on Papuan independence will not mean anything because Indonesia is a sovereign country.
.
"The petition was made by ULMWP, the petition was also a fake signature. The Benny Wenda never came in Papua, from where he got the petition if he didn't make it himself. Just relax, ULMWP never sent a petition to the Head of the UN Decolonization Committee Rafael "Ramires was in 2017 and the petition was rejected, ULMWP sent again yesterday, so it must have been rejected again by the United Nations," Moeldoko said.
.
The United Nations (UN) has decided that Papua is part of Indonesia which cannot be contested. The decision was conveyed by the Indonesian Ambassador / Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva, Hasan Kleib.
.
The decision was made during a recent public debating of a potential member of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. In the event, Indonesia received a number of questions related to the Papua referendum from various parties.
.
The following are the results of the Indonesian Permanent Representative Meeting with the UN Secretary General, which was accepted by Okezone.
.
1. On September 10, 2019, in New York, Indonesia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Dian Triansyah Djani met with the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres to discuss developments in the current situation in Papua, and the status of Papuan sovereignty from a UN perspective.
.
2. Meeting results, as follows:

     a. The United Nations supports the Sovereignty and Integrity of Indonesia's territory and the issue of Sovereignty is not a question for the United Nations. The final status of Papua in Indonesia is based on the possideti iuris, NY Agreement 1962, Act of Free Choice 1969, and UN GA resolution 2504 (XXIV) 1969.
.
     b. The UN sees the outcome of the Government's development in the era of President Jokowi in the Papua and West Papua regions. However, it needs to be strengthened with symbolic things.
